Immersive Audio Workshops

Learn to tell stories with space and sound.

The workshops offer a technical and critical approach to the use of immersive audio in artistic contexts. Through hands-on training, they provide concrete tools for developing spatial sound projects applied to installations, performative works, or exhibition environments.

Four fundamental formats of immersive sound are studied in detail: binaural, object-based audio, ambisonics, and surround systems. The focus is on understanding how they work, when they are used, and what their perceptual and technical implications are. The sessions explore the criteria for applying each format, both in headphone-based listening and in multichannel speaker setups.

During the workshops, a complete workflow is developed: from sound capture using specific tools, through design and editing in DAW environments, to multichannel mixing and preparation for different listening systems. The sessions also cover session organization criteria, spatial management, and export strategies.

The content is applied to concrete cases: sound works for physical spaces, immersive recordings, pieces for multichannel setups, and live performances. The goal is for each participant to translate the knowledge gained into their own practice, with a solid technical foundation.

This workshop is aimed at artists, musicians, sound designers, educators, and researchers working with sound who wish to expand their resources related to spatial audio. Previous experience with immersive audio is not required, although familiarity with sound production environments is recommended.

Participant profile:
  • Artists and musicians working with recordings, installations, or live performances.

  • Sound designers and producers seeking to incorporate multichannel mixing or binaural techniques.

  • Educators, curators, and research teams interested in experimenting with sound as a spatial and narrative medium.
