Filaments of a Circle is an experimental narrative that develops the notion of Alice in Wonderland syndrome, a clinical disorder characterised by brief episodes of distortion in the perception of body image and of the size, distance, shape or spatial relationships of objects and time. This series of audiovisual works is a collaboration between the artists Analucía Roeder and Sol Rezza for the IN/OUT 2021 festival. It seems that the writer Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) suffered from severe migraines and may have experienced this syndrome, which was reflected in Alice’s experiences during her journey down the rabbit hole. In these strange times, we are going through a distortion of reality, of the present time and a sense of incomprehension of our future. We find ourselves disoriented in a sea of possibilities, technology has completely changed our ways of perceiving the world around us. We find ourselves going down the rabbit hole. The title of this work has been chosen in a visual game, like the filaments of a plant floating in a glass of water. This physical phenomenon causes a distortion similar to the perceptions experienced during the Alice in Wonderland syndrome. The narrative is composed of 4 stories. Each story describes a particular object or situation given by different collaborators in different languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, German). Inspired by Natália Lebeis’ description of listening carefully to the sound of a refrigerator. Takes the sensation of drinking vinegar in the voice of Emily Welther. A detailed description of walking on the grass by Martina Greiner. Walking in the dark is a mixture of stories and sensations from the authors of Filemants of a Circle, Analucía Roeder/Sol Rezza.
